Northumberland
Street:
Northumberland Street is
Newcastle's main shopping street.
It's the home of many famous
names and department stores. These
include the flagship of the
provincial Marks and Spencer
stores, BHS, Next, HMV, and many
more. Some of these also have
direct access to Eldon Square.
Many of the shops stay open
for late night shopping on
Thursday's till 8pm
MetroCentre
Gateshead:
Europe's largest shopping
centre is on your doorstep, you
truly can shop till you drop at
MetroCentre.
MetroCentre has 360 shops and
services in pleasant, airy,
tree lined malls, all under one
roof. There's late night shopping
every weekday, famous name stores,
plenty of eating places and unique
leisure attractions.
There are 10,000 free car parking
spaces, over 1,000 buses a day and
the MetroCentre has its own
railway station, a free coach park
and bus station.
MetroCentre is open seven days a
week from 10am until 9pm most
days. Saturday is 9am - 7pm,
Sunday 11am - 5pm, Bank Holidays
10am - 6pm. MetroCentre's leisure
attractions, cinema and pubs stay
open after the shops close to
complete your day out. Yellow and
Blue malls normally open until
11pm.

A large number of you will
probably be living in the Jesmond
area after first year and it has a

choose from. Osbourne Road has bar
after bar, some with outside
seating areas so you can enjoy a
drink on our one day of summer
outside! Many run happy hour
games, in some cases you drink for
free! A few minutes walk from
Osbourne Road you have Mr Lynch a
great place to spend a night, with
a live band on Saturday nights.

Baltic
Centre for Contemporary Art:
If you like modern Art then
this is for you. The Baltic is an
international centre for
Contemporary Art and it presents a

exhibitions and events, and is a

Laing Art
Gallery:
Located in New Bridge Street,
next to the famous Blue Carpet,
the gallery holds oil paintings,
watercolours and Newcastle silver.
Newcastle was the greatest glass
producer in the world c 1800 and
enamelled glasses by William
Beilby are on display along with
ceramics (including Maling
pottery), and contemporary work by
up and coming artists.
It has a programme of
regularly-changing exhibitions and
is free entry.

Carling
Academy Newcastle:
Carling Academy Newcastle
opened in 2005 at the former Gala
Bingo Hall on Westgate Road. The
building was originally opened in
1927 as a cinema and later became
the Majestic Ballroom where The
Beatles performed in 1963. Today
the Carling Academy Newcastle has
been restored retaining original
features and since reopening has
attracted high quality artists
including Goldfrapp, Ian Brown,
Athlete, My Chemical Romance and
Corinne Bailey Rae.
